IUTAM Symposium on Emerging Trends in Rotor Dynamics

Date : March 23-26, 2009
Venue: IIT Delhi

Scope and Objectives
IUTAM Symposium on Emerging Trends in Rotor Dynamics is being organized at IIT Delhi under the auspices of International Union of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (IUTAM) and Indian National Science Academy (INSA).

Rotor dynamics is an important branch of discipline of dynamics that deals with behavior of large variety of rotating machines.Complex system of rotating shaft(s) supported on bearings handle large amount of energy and fluid mass, which gives rise to variety of interesting physical phenomena. Research in rotor dynamics started almost one hundred years back. Early research focused on simple issues like prediction of critical speeds. However with the advent of fast computational facilities, and accurate and versatile measurement techniques, research in this area has accelerated over the past few decades. In the process researchers have observed several new phenomena which are not fully understood even today. The demand from industry for light weight, high performance and reliable rotor-bearing systems is the driving force for research and new developments in the field of rotor dynamics.

The symposium aims at bringing together, leading researchers from all over the world to share their research experiences, and more importantly to set up the directions for future research in rotor dynamics.

Topics to be covered
*Analytical and computational methods in rotor dynamics
*Experimental methods in rotor systems
*Instability in rotor bearing systems
*Misalignment, bow, crack, rub/impact, shrink fit and foundation effects
*Nonlinear, parametric, asymmetry and other effects in rotors
*System identification, model updating and SDM techniques
*Active/semi active rotor vibration control
*Smart material applications for rotor vibration control
*Developments in bearings, dampers and seals
*Non-metallic, composite rotors
*Diagnostics, prognostics and condition monitoring of rotors
*Analysis of bladed disc systems
*Applications to special systems - geared systems, transmissions, vertical rotors, electrical machinery, aerospace propulsion systems like high speed turbopumps, multi-spool gas turbines etc., smart and micro rotor systems.

Accommodation
In Delhi during the Symposium period, kindly note the following.
We are arranging limited accommodation in Guest Houses of IIT Delhi and similar organizations in Delhi. This accommodation is quite good and economical, typically 25-30 USD per day. Please let us know if you would like to have guest house accommodation. We shall arrange it for you, subject to availability. Email us for guesthouse accommodation at any of the following addresses.more details.
